Typical week in the life of an Assistant Architectural Historian at Ascent:

Ascent is looking for an Assistant Architectural Historian to work in our Sacramento office. You will work closely with and under the supervision of an Architectural Historian. In a typical week, you may:

  • Assist in conducting background research
  • Prepare written architectural descriptions and determinations of eligibility
  • Perform history/architecture fieldwork tasks, including photographing resources and taking extensive notes
  • Prepare site records
  • Visit project sites in northern California, the Sierra Nevada, and the Central Valley
  • Receive training and support to advance your environmental career
  • Enjoy social and community service events and the camaraderie of being an Ascentian

We are seeking candidates who enjoy historic and historic architectural analysis and have a master’s degree in historic preservation or a related field or a bachelor’s degree and 2–3 years of applicable experience. Professional qualifications include strong writing and analytical skills, computer/MS Office Suite skills, and engaging interpersonal skills.
